This has been just a lousy year for the normal working joe. Health care reform, jobs, government accountability and protections, public finances, individual rights… All played out as half-measures or outright failures. The trades in union towns like mine in Chicago are stone cold, and the old-timers warn it’s only going to get worse. Nobel economist Paul Krugman sees job improvement somewhere out in 2012-13.
But that’s the story of the decade. Flat wages. Flat job growth. Flat home appreciation. Even flat stock values. That’s not even considering the nightmare impact of 9-11 and its tragic aftermath. It wasn’t even a lost decade, it was something worse.
And yet, we live. We’re smarter. And we are determined.
Let’s turn the page.
